Launch of the College of Medicine
The College of Medicine was launched on 28 October 2010, marked by an event at the House of Commons. Our grateful thanks to our host, the Rt Hon Peter Hain MP. This was followed by a symposium at the Cabinet War Rooms.
Today healthcare is about teams, and patients are now partners rather than passive recipients of care. The College of Medicine reflects that. Uniquely, it is a powerful alliance of doctors, nurses and other health professionals alongside patients and scientists. No other medical body has ever brought all these groups together.
Together, we are re-defining what good medicine means. Part of that is the renewal of the traditional values of service, commitment and compassion. College professionals regard their work as a vocation, not just a job. As well as medical care, we focus on health improvement, wellbeing and self help, particularly in respect of long term conditions.
